I love a farmhouse kitchen! Crisp white cabinets. Wood, stone, and ship lap all thrown in like they were always meant to be together.
Our kitchen isn’t a perfect farmhouse kitchen, but it’s pretty close to me.
I thought it would be fun to give you a tour and take you inside our farmhouse kitchen.

When we (and I mean Andrew) remodeled our house back in 2019, there were three things I was unwilling to negotiate on. An open floor plan, a big island, and a farmhouse sink. My wonderful husband gave me all of those things and more.
We bought this house from Andrew’s family, it was his grandparents home. They built it in 1960. It was a nice home but by the time we bought it, the house had been vacant for twenty years. The old house just needed to be completely gutted and redone.
The original floor plan was like any other house from that time. Everything was divided up. The kitchen was in the middle of the house and closed off from the dining room and living room. The original layout was a three bedroom house, one bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room and an unfinished basement.

Now the same house with a finished basement has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two living rooms, a kitchen and dining room, and an office. It took two years to finish and I love it so much I think I’ll stay here forever. Seriously, we can’t move. This property has been in Andrew’s family for almost eighty years!
Sometimes, I wonder if we should have left the layout like it was, but honestly the open floor plan fits our family much better. It’s much easier to hang out together. The kids can play in the living room while I clean up the kitchen.

We only lived in two other houses before this one. However, in both of those houses, I never felt settled. I knew we would be selling and moving. With that always in the back of my mind, I never decorated the house the way I really wanted to. I always chose the safest wall colors and furniture that looked neat and tidy.
Now, I decorate how I want. Whatever color I want.
The island is everything I had hoped for. It sits in the middle of the kitchen and anchors the kitchen to the living room. We have drawers and cabinets on the back side of the island. Andrew put an outlet on one end of the island. I am so grateful he thought to do that. It comes in so handy.
This island is where we all end up gathering most days. We cook together here, do homework and just chat.

The island is a beautiful light blue color with a butcher block top made from cherry lumber cut from a local farm. It’s amazing!

The other star of the kitchen is that big beautiful farmhouse sink. One of these days you’ll see a picture of this sink with a little goat kid or maybe one of our new lambs in it. I’m already planning it! Nothing screams farmhouse style more than actual farm animals, am I right?
In case you’re wondering. I do love the one big sink. Some people prefer a double sink (my husband), but I actually like it this way better. I can hide a lot of dishes in there!

To the right of the sink are two small floating shelves. I use these shelves to hold things I use daily. It just makes things easier for me. Another way I let practicality rule over being aesthetic.

Above the sink is one of our many piles of rocks scattered ( I mean neatly placed) around the house. The kids love finding rocks for me to add to our collection and I will just keep finding places for them. It does add a natural earthly feel to the kitchen.

To the left of our sink is my little makeshift coffee station. I hung these hooks up under the cabinet to hold our coffee mugs. We use our Keruig daily. The only time I don’t use it is if I happen to make my cold brew recipe. I usually do that more in the summertime.
The stack of plates are multifunctional. We use them for decoration and we also eat off of them almost daily. Having them out on the counter makes it easier to grab a plate for dinner. These were also plates that were left in the old kitchen. So they’re pretty special. I wish I had the matching cups for those saucers, but they weren’t here when we were going through the old stuff.

Next to the coffee station is the stove. Our pantry is next to that which ends the cabinetry for the kitchen. I love using the stove to hang kitchen towels from. I found this kitchen towel and thought it fit our style perfectly. It is also very soft and absorbent. I love using hand towels to add a pop of color or change themes for the season. They’re a cheap way to change up the style in your kitchen.

That’s it. That’s the complete kitchen tour. It’s not perfect and still needs a few finishing touches, like some trim here and there but I love it. It’s the prettiest kitchen I’ve ever had, that’s for sure.
Thanks for stopping by!
